Bailey gets her "L"

Yippee Bailey passed her L test and she can finally drive! Of course that is if Ballard or I or someone over 25 are with her at all times and she is only allowed one other person with either of us so we can't let her drive if we are both in the car seriously STUPID but whatever! She has to drive like this for a year and then she can go in and take her "N" test which allows her to drive by herself with one other person and a family member and she has to have her N for two years which is again frustrating but oh well she passed and we are super PROUD of her!!!!

So I was sooooo excited when P.G brought in a Childrens Place! We found the cutest little outfit for baby Zachary and well it was so cute I just had to show you right away Koe, because you know how our mail is! Well it has been awhile since I posted anything and if I had one wish it would be for more time and the ability to slow down but like that will ever happen lol!

We have had an interesting year so far I have worked in Edmonton and have worked on a lot of houses here in town, Ballard has been up North due to all the forest fires but at least he is one of the few working! Boy do we need RAIN! We finally got all of our food plots in and we have pick sticks till we are sick of picking sticks, we built a new tree stand which is really cool and I will take pictures later and post them Ballard is very proud of his tree stand! The kids have been fishing and just enjoying every moment of their summer Bailey is getting ready to write her L test so she can begin the task of trying to beable to drive what a pain this new system is! Brody is content to catch frogs and fish and is very glad Grandma Schumann is home!

things I've been up too

So this past month has been busy I've laid ALOT of tile and grouted ALOT of tile and needless to say I am good for doing Tile work! But this past week my boss handed me a box of scrap slate tile and asked me if I would try and figure out something for this couples fireplace that had been sitting unfinished for years because they didn't know what to do so with only 15 full tile and alot of scraps and some Arizona rock viola a fireplace is born where once there was only plywood and this was not easy as the stove was not centered (which still drives me crazy) and nothing was square and yes that rock was heavy and lets just say hanging tile above your head is no easy task and yes I did curse but nobody was listening:)

So another year has flown by and Brody has turn nine! I am so proud of him he has been doing so well in school and we have seen a huge improvement in his behavior he has finally settled the kettle as Grandma Schumann would say! He live for Dinosaurs, lizards and snakes and has not yet convinced me that a gecko would be a great addition to our family! He loves LOVES to read and you will find him in a corner sprawled out somewhere reading... right now he loves the Diary of A wimpy Kid series and will share with whoever will listen funny parts of the books! He is very much into Pokemon cards and will go on and on about them and Ballard and I will pretend to understand what he is talking about when we really have nooooo idea! He loves to play with his cousins and if Kayleb is not at school with him he is devastated and can't hardly stand it he gets a huge kick out of Charity and Tripp and loves the babies as he likes to call them! He has big plans to live in Australia but thinks we will be sad that he has moved so far away and likes to reassure us that we can come visit him anytime we want to! All in all he has been the best nine years of our lives and there is never a dull moment when he is around.... we love you Brody!

We have been enjoying watching all the elk that are below the house, there have been around eighty-five head feeding in the bottom fields and across the river in Gulbranson's

Ballard has been busy planning food plots and what he will put in the bottom fields to ensure his luck for next hunting season! I am standing on the deck of our house as I am taking the pictures!

New Light

So for Christmas this year Monte and Danawn (aka mom and dad grandma and grandpa) had our family and they just happen to buy me the most AWESOME light for over my island and when I say awesome I mean AWESOME it is hard to tell from pictures but it is a antique copper brass color and the glass bulbs have tiny little bubbles throughout them like they where hand blown, (maybe they were I'm not an expert on glass or anything!) and Ballard loves it because it is from Cabelas I have been waiting and waiting trying to find the perfect light and voila they did it! So we wanted to give them a huge thank-you and tell them how much we LOVE our new light!! Danawn also painted a very beautiful sign for the beginning of our driveway with our house number and an elk on it and when it stops snowing I will post a picture it is gorgeous and Ballard loves it!

Bailey's favorite was of course her new Dell laptop, Brody's favorite gift was his new sled but the best reaction was for his new Pokemon cards who knew Pokemon cards were the best thing EVER!

New Moon

So it has been awhile since I have posted and we have been having fun workin hard and are very much looking forward to a few days off! Bailey and I stood in line for 3.5 hrs to see new moon and had fun standing in line with friends! In the chairs are Bailey's friends Sydney and Carly with Carly's mom who was Brody's teacher last year! In the next picture is my boss's granddaughter Tori in the light blue coat and her friends they are all hockey players and are cute as buttons but will tear you apart on the ice! The Last pic is Bailey doing her favorite thing TEXTING!!

So Ballard got his elk last weekend, it was late sunday night and he had to get up early and head to camp so this is the best we could do for pictures! But hey an elk is an elk and the freezer is full who could ask for anything more!

So Ballard decided we really needed a wood shed this year, {my nagging about how hard it was to build up the fire with wet frozen wood that is three feet long had nothing to do with it!} and so we have been working on it for the past couple of weekends as he is in camp and only home on the weekends but it is coming along nicely and if the wind cooperates we will put the tin on this weekend! Of course it has somehow grown in size to now being a wood slash storage slash meat hanging shed! Gotta love a man with vision!

So Brody was my super helper in the garden this weekend and helped me dig allllllll the potatoes! Thanks Brodz I couldn't have done it without you! We love the view we have from our house in the fall it is so beautiful and sometimes I just have to pinch myself to make sure it is real!

So Hunting Season is off to a good start! Ballard was very excited to finally kill this awesome mule deer with his Mathews bow. He was in his tree stand and the buck walked by at thirty-six yards, using his forty pin he shot the buck a little high and spined him. He was very happy as this is his first velvet buck and has a cool drop tine!

Well ballard and I are celabrating birthdays this week so last night my wonderful hubby took me out to dinner and we went and saw Happy people with Adam Sandler , dinner was yummy but I would have to say pass on Happy People we both had a hard week at work and wanted a good laugh but it was a more sad then make you laugh kind of movie so maybe we will go see Ice Age 3 again since I was so tired when we went to see it the first time that I fell asleep! You know your getting old and working too much when you fall asleep in a theatre filled with noisy kids! Anyway I had Bailey take some pics of Ballard and I, we were being silly and he looks thrilled that I made him take pictures Who does that remind you of....... I'm not naming any names but if you go onto Koe's blog you will see a similar older version of Ballard! I am just going to take a moment to tell you all how great a man I married he works hard all week and even though he is tired he still takes time to be a wonderful dad and husband Brody says he is the best dad EVER and he is the best hunter, fisherman, snake and frog catcher! Bailey and Ballard share the same taste in music books and artistic talent where as I roll my eyes when they jam to their music she loves that her dad rocks! And I am grateful for a husband who makes me laugh! most people think Ballard is a quiet shy guy but I am telling you this is not sooooo he is funny and I love that about him!

New Kittens and Camp

So we finally found some manx kittens and they are so sweet! Brody is holding Bella but the boy Jake aka Jacob was feeling camera shy he is a very cute grey with black and brown stripes color and we love them!

So Ballard is back in camp uggggg! He hates the camp he is in the cook is terrible and well he really hates it but not as much as Brody he REALLY misses his Dad so he insists on crawling into bed with me because it makes him feel better or so he says! I snapped these pictures the other morning because he totally looks so like a Schumann man!

So Ballard guided a couple of Wyoming bear hunters last week and took some really nice black bears he also was on the Christensen Outdoors hunting show with bear hunters from 2008 so he is now a famous t.v star! Hee Hee we are so proud of our hunter man!

So Ballard and Brody were able to go ocean fishing on the Anna Christina which is a 52 foot boat that Gulbranson logging purchased, they went with three other guys that Ballard works with and they had a blast! One of the guys Mark caught a 105 lb halibut! Brody and Ballard each caught 30lb halibut and a ton of other fish salmon, cod, red snapper, crabs, prawns and other various critters that of course Brody brought home for his collection! The weather was beautiful and they had such a great time!

So Bailey is off to Burns Lake on thursday where she will take part in an art show first prize is five hundred dollars and there are also other numerous prizes, her art teacher Mr Mueller aka Brother and sister Mueller's oldest son Vaugn submitted them, this picture doesn't show all the details and I don't have a picture of her log house bedroom but she sure was blessed with her dad's artistic talent since I can't draw a stickman! We sure are proud of her she continues to be on the honor role even with a month of being super sick! Good Luck on Thursday Bailey we love you!

All in a days work

So we had an exciting week! I had to go back up to Fort St James and finish cleaning all the rock work I had done last fall and I decided Ballard and Brody could come along and help me but when Brody found out we would be going to Stuart lake he decided he would HAVE to go fishing, well I explained to him that the boys I had worked with all last year had fished every evening after work and had never caught a fish but he reassured me that he would because he is a good fisher person so he gathered his gear and was ready to go at 5:00 am! We arrived there at eight in the morning and he was on the dock at eight fifteen and fished till lunchtime and had caught nothing! We went in the house and had some lunch and all of a sudden Brody had an idea! We had packed some smoked salmon for lunch so he grabbed the skin and headed back to the dock he decided to use the salmon skin as bait and soon had his line back in the water, we were all still visiting and eating when all of a sudden one of the guys I work with said he thought Brody had something we all looked out the window and sure enough his rod was bent clean over! Ballard ran down to the dock while we all watched from the house in amazement as they pulled a seven pound lake trout up and out onto the dock all the guys I work with were cheering and needless to say it will be a day Brody will never forget it just goes to show you if at first you don't succeed try try again or in this case use salmon skin as bait!

So poor Bailey is Sick!! She has been home for the last two days with a terrible flu she has a really bad cough and is sore all over with a fever aches and pains and since the swine flu has entered Vanderhoof and surrounding areas going to the clinic was an adventure we had to put on masks along with the nurses and doctors and boy did they keep their distance! So we are waiting for her test results to come back and since so many families went to Mexico over spring break we are trying not to worry luckily Dr. Makin thinks she was sick before the outbreak so he thinks it is just the flu here's to hoping he is right! She is finally done with her play and they were a smashing success, she had so much fun that she is already talking about what they want to do next year!

So Uncle Tyler had a 410 shotgun and so Ballard decided to ask Uncle Tyler if we could fix it up for Brody to use and so they worked very hard to make it look really good and here is the finished product a sweet little gun for future little Schumann boys and in the mean time Brody says she sure shoots SWEET!

We shortened the stock and forend we cut the barrel to twenty inches and welded a hammer extension for small hands to cock!

We stripped the stock and the blueing and redid it all and added a bipod! Thanks Uncle Tyler!

Well Bailey is at the second night of her play Pygmalion aka My Fair Lady and After a terrible dress rehersal on Wednesday night resulting in all cast members taking friday off from school to regroup and relax we are happy to announce that opening night on friday was a smashing success no one forgot their lines and the english accents were smooth and understandable which was a good thing because having Ballard lean over every two minutes asking what the heck did they just say was getting very old! Yeah Bailey we are so proud of you!

So Brody has just started a Vclass which is a class he does over the internet on his new novel study James and the Giant Peach, his first assignment was to create a peach recipe and of course he wanted to make a peach shake! He spiced up the recipe by adding Mexican vanilla and it turned out very yummy! His second assignment was to make a paper peach out of tissue paper ect what a fun day we had!

Well we had a fabulous easter minus the freak snow storm with toonie size snowflakes they were huge! Brody loved his easter goodies and had fun building a dinosaur maze and then he spent the next few days building all sorts of cool paper airplanes! So I found this awesome craft book at winners (my fave store) that was full of easy awesome crafts that I knew Brody would love so we have spent the last few days being creative with you guessed it paper plates! We are not done yet we are working on some more cool underwater friends and soon our poster board will be filled! My tip of the day craft with your kids! Creativity and imagination are important so don't waste precious time in front of the T.V instead break out the glue sticks paper and crayons and get busy!!!!

Brody has been feeling artistic lately and has done some fun art work, first he wanted to do marble art which of course he thought was awesome rolling marbles in paint and then rolling them all over your paper what fun!!! Then we made cute chenille animals which you can find the instructions for on marthastewart.com.He also made a potato stamp t-shirt that had pictures of Patch Ginny and Cocoa his beloved mutts slash best pals! We also had fun decorating sugar cookies and playing with Kirby and Austin on Saturday!

So this last weekend was beautiful, sunny, blue skies and well just plain gorgeous! We won't mention what the weather is like today (rain) I am forseeing me and Brody having to get a load of sand and I am wondering if that will count for P.E! Anyway Brody and I decided we needed to brush up on our hockey skills so out came the net, sticks, and puck then I had a light bulb moment lets let the dogs out for some exercise and they can watch us play hockey...... what was I thinking we have jack russels for goodness sakes needless to say I spent a good half an hour trying to coach Patch into giving me the puck back and well I think he thought he was Whayne Gretzky or something because he sure did want to play!

Ballard bought brody a sweet little .22 rifle for his first gun and boy does he love it! They shoot it every night that Ballard is home and on the weekend it sounds like a millitary post thank goodness we have no close neighbors! They have made lots of targets and he is now shooting like an old pro!

Ballard work very hard to get us our elk this year and although he isn't the monster he wanted he is happy just the same! The elk had an early rut this year and proved to be a challenge to hunt but lucky for us Ballard loves a challenge!
